Collage is my primary medium of art expression. I enjoy “the hunt” for the perfect piece of paper, copy or ephemera to add to or to inspire a piece. The process of creating a collage can be deliberate, but for me, it is more often organic; it grows in bits and pieces. I have lived most of my life in the Southwest, so the high desert landscapes are a familiar and comfortable image for me to interpret. I also occasionally find a pithy piece of text that goes into a more abstract composition. I have been inspired by the work of Nita Leland and Cecil Touchon. The idea of de-constructing and re-constructing images, text, and graphic type is exciting to me and the process of creating “something”, if not really “from nothing”, but from “something else” is my idea of a good time.
